A new Historical Film has been brought to my attention! It's called Courage, New Hampshire.
I don't know if I've told you guys, but I am a huge fan of Historical movies. The classics like Pride & Prejudice, anything the BBC does, Sense and Sensibility are never to far away from my DVD player.
When I got an email from the film company
, Colony Bay, that's producing Courage, I Eeeped! (<-- true story that)
They wanted me to review their first of many episodes. So by all means, let's do take a look at their pilot episode; The Travail of Sarah Pine.
I'm not going to give much of the story away, because I recommend that you watch it for yourself! But here's the run down, and afterwards I'll give my thoughts.
The story is set in a small township in 18th Century New Hampshire. The first episode is about a young lady named Sarah Pine, and
her love Sargent
Bob Weedle of his Majesty's 29th Regimen. The opening scene is of Sargent Weedle being arrested in Courage, New Hampshire. The second scene is one year later, same place, when Sargent Weedle is arrested again, but this time for a new, and more serious matter. Fornication.
The first time Sargent Weedle was in Courage, he tricked Sarah Pine into sleeping with him. By saying he would stay in Courage and marry her. (Note: none of this is shown, only talked about in past tense). Weedle Does not keep his word, and leaves soon after.
The show really starts up when Weedle is back in town a year later, to find Sarah with a new born. Weedle denies that its his, and the rest of the episode is him in the town court room being tried to find out if the child is indeed his.
There is of course a few other story lines going on through the show, that makes it much more interesting than my description may seem, but I didn't want to give to much away! If you like historical films, i'm pretty sure you'll like this new series, Courage, New Hampshire.
Watch the show here. You can rent it online for $2.95!
A few thoughts on the episode, The Travail of Sarah Pine.
- I'd say it's rating is around PG, not for any bad content, but because the younger kids wouldn't understand the story. (I still found myself scratching my head at parts)
- The acting is great, you get a feel for each character, whether good or bad.
- To be honest I wasn't very fond of the first half, but the last ten minutes of the show make up for it! :D
- This is Colony Bay's first ever attempt at making historical films, for that, they are doing great!
Altogether I'm very happy someone has made a new show focusing on a very important time in the history of our nation.
Episode two!! They are almost done filming the second episode! It looks AH-MAZING! They should be done shooting it any day. Cant wait to watch it.
